Client Engagement Letter

Thank you for choosing Adulting Docs, LLC (“Adulting Docs,” “we,” “us,” or the “Firm”) to assist you in preparing important legal documents. This letter confirms our discussion regarding your employment of our Firm and describes the basis upon which we will provide legal services to you. If you agree with the terms in this letter, please sign and date the acknowledgment below and return it to us at your earliest convenience.

1. Scope of Representation

You have asked us to represent you with regard to the preparation of one or more of the following documents (collectively, the “Documents”):

  • Advance Directive / Health Care Directive; and/or
  • Durable Financial Power of Attorney.

Our representation is limited to the preparation and delivery of the Documents you select, based on the information you provide and the applicable laws of the relevant jurisdiction.

This engagement does not include wills, trusts, estate tax planning, Medicaid planning, probate, guardianship, business planning, real estate matters, or any other legal services not expressly described above.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, our representation will conclude upon delivery of your completed Documents in PDF format along with signing instructions.  We are not able to provide the Word version of any legal document we prepare.

2. Jurisdiction and Applicable Law

Adulting Docs provides legal services only in jurisdictions where it is authorized to practice law and where it has attorneys licensed in the applicable jurisdiction.

Your Documents will be prepared to comply with the laws of the applicable jurisdiction based on the information you provide, including your state of residence and other relevant factors.

You acknowledge that acceptance of Powers of Attorney and Advance Directives may vary by institution, and the Firm cannot guarantee acceptance by any particular third party.

3. Identification of Client; No Representation of Parents or Third Parties

You acknowledge that you are the Firm’s client.

If a parent, guardian, or other third party assists with payment, scheduling, intake, or communication, that person is not our client, and we do not represent them unless we expressly agree to do so in writing.

We owe our professional duties, including confidentiality and loyalty, solely to you. We will not disclose your confidential information to any third party, including family members, without your consent, except as permitted or required by law.

4. Attorney Assignment

You understand and agree that Adulting Docs may assign your matter to an attorney working for or with the Firm who is licensed in the applicable jurisdiction.

5. Responsibilities of the Firm and Client

We will provide legal services as described in this agreement.

You agree to provide accurate information and respond promptly. You acknowledge that:

  • we cannot guarantee outcomes or timing, and
  • you remain responsible for your decisions.

We do not provide accounting, tax, financial, or medical advice.

6. Fees and Payment Terms

Flat Fee Structure

The flat fee for services is as follows:

  • $750.00 for both an Advance Directive and Power of Attorney (bundle); or
  • $500.00 for a single document.

Optional Add-On: In-Home Notarization

If you elect in-home notarization services, an additional fee of $175.00 will apply. This service is optional.

Advance Payment and Trust Deposit

All fees are due in advance and will be deposited into the Firm’s attorney trust account (IOLTA).

When Fees Are Earned

All fees become fully earned upon delivery of the completed Documents in PDF format (“Delivery”). Upon Delivery, fees will be transferred from the trust account to the Firm’s operating account and will be non-refundable.

Termination Prior to Delivery

If you terminate representation prior to Delivery, the Firm will refund any unearned portion of the fee, subject to the Firm’s right to retain a reasonable portion for work performed, as permitted by applicable rules.

Included Services

The flat fee includes:

  • attorney review of your intake information,
  • preparation of your Documents, and
  • one round of reasonable revisions.

Additional services may be billed at $450/hour, unless otherwise agreed.

7. Timing

The Firm will make reasonable efforts to complete your Documents promptly, subject to your responsiveness.

8. Execution of Documents

The Firm will provide general signing instructions. You are responsible for properly executing your Documents.

If you elect the optional in-home notarization service, the Firm will assist in coordinating that service, but cannot guarantee scheduling availability.

9. No Ongoing Duty

After delivery and execution, the Firm has no ongoing obligation to update your Documents.

10. Prior Representations and Conflict Waiver

You acknowledge that the Firm may represent other family members in separate matters.

You consent to such representations and waive conflicts arising solely from those separate matters, provided no direct adversity exists and confidentiality is maintained.

11. Termination

Either party may terminate representation as permitted by applicable rules.

12. Electronic Communications

You consent to electronic communications and data storage methods.

13. Entire Agreement

This letter constitutes the entire agreement between you and the Firm.
